Zynga.org's Strategy for Sustainability

About Zynga's Haiti Initiatives

We believe social gamers can make a powerful and positive impact when provided with opportunity. Through Zynga’s top games, players can purchase limited edition items to benefit several nonprofits with whom Zynga has partnered in Haiti. Zynga has identified these partners specifically to achieve a comprehensive strategy for providing food, shelter, water, and education to families in Haiti to ensure sustained economic prosperity.

Zynga gamers have raised more than $4 million for Haiti since Zynga’s virtual social goods were launched in October 2009. We are focusing our main efforts on families and children in the Plateau Central Départment, which was significantly impacted by tens of thousands of refugees who survived the devastating earthquake in January 2010. Contributions from our players have been critical in building a kitchen to provide hot lunches to 200 school children, and in supporting children to attend school.

Zynga’s next goal is to provide space for some refugee children now to also attend school and to offer access to quality education with the construction of a school in Mirebalais, Haiti.

Said Senator Edmonde Beauzile of the Central Plateau, “Since the January earthquake, Mirebalais has been flooded with over 30,000 refugees. Unfortunately, this department has the fewest number of private schools in the country and also the highest rate of school closures. Since 80% of Haiti’s schools are private, it is simply impossible for the government to step in to support them. We are working with Fatem and Zynga in order to help to fill this vast need.”
